Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919)

The 26th President of the United States was a passionate outdoorsman of the Gilded Age whose hunting exploits spanned from American bison hunts in the Dakotas to a monumental 1909–1910 Smithsonian-sponsored African safari collecting over 11,000 specimens for museums. Roosevelt wrote about his hunts in Hunting Trips of a Ranchman and African Game Trails, and helped define the modern conservation movement even as he pursued big-game hunting for science and sport.
